Sail away with me - Part 1 - 'The Idea'
Five years ago, I sailed around the world on a racing yacht...it had as many highs as lows, both in terms of weather and the minutiae of boat life. It was epic, but when I got back to my home port of London, welcomed by my partner, family & friends, I threw my bags off the boat resolutely adamant that I will NEVER step on another yacht EVER again. I was a watch leader, rig monkey, media expert, sail fixer, teacher, trimmer and many more things. I was fed up of counting heads in the cockpit after a big wave swept through like a locomotive.
This huge statement necklace represents my journey, from surviving storms to moments of absolute joy and finally to coming home.
It started with a quick sketch and lots of questions…how do you tell of those darkest nights where your fingers froze to the helm and waves seeped into your "so waterproof you can swim in them” foulies, how do you describe the joy of seeing a whale through the thickest Newfoundland mists, how do you '“make” a sunrise?
I start to make in Part 2...
