MALACHITE was favoured by the ancient Egyptians for its stunning vibrant green and protective properties. It was mined in the Sinai Desert as early as 4000 BC. Ancient Greeks and Romans used it in jewellery, ornaments and mosaics, and even in eye shadow! Russian lapidary masters veneered it onto columns and ornaments using the famous Russian Mosaic technique, as seen in the Hermitage and other royal palaces and cathedrals. Malachite is known as the Midwife’s Stone and is believed to protect against negative energies, pollutants and radiation.
CHRYSOCOLLA The name is likely to come from Greek chrysos (gold) and kola (glue), since it was used by Roman goldsmiths as an ingredient for solder to weld gold pieces together. Renaissance painters ground it down into paint pigments. Chrysocolla is thought to aid tranquility, healing and clear communication.
HALLMARKING Silver in this piece weighs under 7.78g so it does not require UK Hallmarking. My maker’s mark (NS) is stamped on the side of the pendant.
